Work hard – play hard: that is how Brussels is transitioning into the autumn buzz of EU politics. Legislative proposals pile up in the Parliament, from e-privacy to parcel delivery and the ETS reform. The same happens with receptions: party-hopping is the name of the game during this first „Back to School“ week: from Burda’s big summer conference and cocktail to the wine fest of the representation of Hesse to the Pharma lobby and many more – attractiveness is measured by attendance. National elections – especially the upcoming German election – are throwing their shadows, with MEPs campaigning and assistants left to juggle the Parliamentary work. Whilst no major insights are expected from Commission President Juncker’s upcoming State of the Union speech, the nitty-gritty public policymaking is as cumbersome and time-consuming as ever. Brussels is quickly getting back to the usual after-summer routine: time flies to the end of the year from now on.
