Job Alert – Seating Orders

Single Seat debate of the European Parliament, empty seats for Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker’s speech in the Strasbourg plenary, and no seats at all at the negotiation table for G20 protesters in Hamburg – this has been the week leading us into the summer break.

Whilst Juncker went wild because Members of the European Parliament had more important negotiations to do than to listen to his speech, France has unsurprisingly made sure that these negotiations will continue to take place in Strasbourg – no sufficient incentives yet to substitute for the money inflow into the quaint city of Alsace; the travelling will continue.

At least, these issues are dealt with in a debating mode. Hamburg has just seen an outbreak of war-like chaos with no obvious other goal than to aggress and destroy whatever is left on the streets. G20 protesters seem to have absolutely no interest to gain a seat at the table and to discuss their worries. Instead, Hamburg citizens‘ cars, including those of a veterinarian practice and a mobile caring service went up in flames. Violence is no solution, and that’s exactly what politics and especially the EU style of policymaking stand for.
