Job Alert – Back to Brexit

Whilst Emmanuel Macron’s election as French president is of great relief to Brussels, interest returns to Brexit and how it can be handled. With Article 50 finally triggered, and task forces in place on both sides, the devil in the detail starts to reveal itself. With a recent court ruling that all trade agreements with the UK will need approval by national and regional parliaments, fond memories of Wallonia’s war against CETA emerge.

A more positive aspect from an EU perspective: if the European Medicines Agency moves from London to Strasbourg, the European Parliament could finally stop its monthly travels – saving huge amounts of time and money. Britain, on the other hand, is now unhappily realising that it might still have to pay into the pension funds for EU officials – current EU view: a treaty is a treaty, with all entitlements and duties that have been signed.

What is becoming very clear: making this a friendly divorce will be very difficult and demanding to all sides. But things could be worse: in the meantime, we are watching Trump’s revelations to Russia with worry and amusement – and hope that we will soon be able to use our laptops on flights to the US again.

If none of this puts you off seeking a job in the world of European politics, find the latest jobs and as usual more on politjobs.eu!
