Job Alert – Data – Taxes – Voices

Cambridge Analytica’s illegal use of Facebook data (and Facebook’s knowledge about it), Donald Trump’s most recent ideas and Brexit dominated these past weeks – hence business as usual. The European Commission’s planst to introduce a VAT tax on digital revenues comes in handy, as Cambridge Analytica and similar companies seem to provide excellent revenue streams – the Commission might need to think twice in the future, before EU data protection rules bite into the digital tax tail.

This might affect Britain for longer than anticipated – business and policymakers alike are relieved that a decision on the transition period has been taken – until 2020. Let’s see how many times it gets prolonged.

Also to the relief especially of busines, another tax is not getting off the road – the EU’s charme offensive to avoid a trade war over US import taxes has been successful: China has to deal with the problem now.

Somebody to deal with in the European Parliament is now MEP Udo Bullmann: the German Social Democrat was elected leader of the S&D party, as a successor to Italian Gianni Pittella. Journalists will do the maths again and find that yet another top job is going into male German hands – in politically chaotic times, time will tell if this is a good or a bad thing.

Certainly not helpful in these times has been former Trump advisor Steve Bannon – on roadshow in Europe to promote a Global nationalist rightwing movement. Another voice however is sadly missed: Stephen Hawking died at the age of 76 and leaves the world, especially a lot less intelligent place. Whilst not proposing to fill these huge shoes – if you are ready to add some intelligence to the Brussels EU world, find some jobs and as usual more on politjobs.eu!
